We now go to Sarah Billingsley reporting on live feed from Toronto
Thank you, Jeff.
I am live at the site of the explosion that rocked the downtown Toronto earlier this morning, where TFC crews continue to battle the blaze that has engulfed the University of Toronto’s Institute for Magical Research. Early reports indicate that a large explosion occurred on the seventh floor of the building at 03:24 this morning. The blast shattered windows across campus and set the Institute building ablaze.
Security and janitorial personnel have been evacuated from the building, but we do not currently know if any other staff have been affected. Sources suggest that the epicenter of the explosion was the laboratory of Dr. Carrie McGrath, whose team recently announced a breakthrough in HMHVV research.
TFC media spokeperson, Tina Marks, told us that they will not know the extent of the damage until crews have been able to fully extinguish the blaze. She says that firefighters have been hampered by the presence of volatile and dangerous research reagents in several of the labs, and by University Corporate Policy requiring the maintenance of security and information protection even in a disaster situation.
Dr. McGrath has not yet been available to comment on the explosion and its impact on her research. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed of any changes.
Back to you Jeff.
Thank you, Sarah
