I had been sleeping soundly, I think, when the phone rang.
“Ummm, hello?”, I rasped.
“Maz, its Jimmy, a repeat customer has called asking for your team to do a job. I’ve scheduled a meet for the Panumbra at 6.”
“In the morning?”, I asked.
“Maz, its almost noon.”
So I got up went to the washroom, brushed my teeth, rinsed using the warm beer from last night. Yeah, I know but its better than the water. I really need to get a better place. I send a call out to the team, telling them we have another job opportunity.
This overweight, balding guy motions towards me as we go in the door.
“Hey”, I say as I sit down.
“You know Louie Mazzilani… Cross-Eyed Louie? We want you to kill him for us. The Gianelli family has endured his excesses for long enough…”
They want to pay for me for something I’ve been planning on doing since Dwayne’s death? Sweet.
So we leave 12500¥ richer. I’m on the way home when my commlink goes off.
“Hey Maz, its Louie, I need help from you and your team if you can. Can you meet me tomorrow afternoon at my compound?”
“Oh hi Louie, yeah Maz’ll get his team together and we’ll drop by.”
I park the bike and turn the corner to go up the steps and into the building, when I notice a limo pull up. Limo’s pulling up in some areas of town wouldn’t alert me to anything but in my neighbourhood they are anything but common. The window lowers and a familiar red-headed woman peers out.
“Good evening, Mr Yiska. We have some business to discuss with you if you’d care to have a seat.”, she said as one of the doors opened.
It may not have been smart getting into the limo but if they really had wanted me dead, I’d be dead already.
“Hi Mom”, I said with a smirk. I hadn’t seen her since ‘62 but she hadn’t aged a day. I still had no clue who she was, who she worked for, or how she kept tabs on me. She didn’t even register annoyance by my greeting.
“We understand you are working on a job. If during the course of that job, you can discover where the Gianelli’s are getting the tempo, we’ll pay you for that information.”
“I’ll see what I can find.”, I said. My commlink registered the 2000¥ going into my account. I stole a glance at her legs as I got out of the limo before glancing up and noticed that it was now her smirking.
I called the team again so that I could explain everything over breakfast at the IHOP.
We met Louie later that afternoon, driving in through the compound gates with lots of armed guards.
“He’s expecting you in his office”, one of the guards said.
“Thanks for coming Maz, wow, you’ve brought quite the gang.”, Louie said as we stepped into the office.
“It sounded like you needed as much help as possible.”
“You remember Terri, my second? She stagged a coup against me and managed to steal 40% of my guys. We’ve been fighting it out for weeks now. I think I can lure her out…”
Tony agreed to pay us 20000¥ and provice a rocket launcher. So we sat near one of his warehouses waiting for Terri to arrive as my commlink goes off again.
“Hello Mazula, wanted to let you know that Louie will be heading to one of his warehouses by the docks in the next 15 minutes. That would be a good time to take him out.”, said Mr Johnson as he sends me a GPS location.
“Right, thanks”, I said as I hung up. Looks like we were hired by Terri instead of the Gianelli’s…
Louie’s boat pulls up to the docks. They get out and proceed to “examine” the contents of the other boat tied at the dock.
“Looks like Terri won’t be coming”, I say to Dmitri, “may as well take him out.”
The boat blows up taking out Louie and the four men he’d taken with him.
“Sorry Louie…”, I murmured to myself.
I called back the Johnson and arranged for a meet at the train yards in an hour.
As we were heading toward the train yards, Hirito’s commlink went off and he told us that his friend Vesic had arranged a meet with Rodrigo an hour after our meet at the train yards. She sent him a map of the area, including the spot of the meet and a good sniping position.
The train yard seemed like a strange place to meet so we approached cautiously. Wolfe’s spirit picked up quite a few men hanging around and Hirito was able to see them trying to hide around our meeting spot. Hirito started picking them off one by one. They started looking around for where the shots were coming from but could pick him out. Seems like there were over 15 men out there and over half were still running somewhere…
I called Mr Johnson back but the number was no longer in service. I needed to pay Terri back anyways since she may have been the one to actually order Dwayne’s death but now I had another reason.
When we got to the meet location with Rodrigo, Hirito and I scouted out for a different sniping location. The rest of us stayed around a corner where we could keep an eye out on the scene.
I looked up toward where Hirito was positioned and noticed a man standing over him. Hirito seemed to be trying to get up and the other man seemed to be diving out of the way just as explosions filled the area around us.
“Hirito! Hiriitttooooo!!”, Wolfe screamed besides me.
