Once his audience had fled the scene, Louie nodded to Terri.
“Get Bruno and his guys in here to clean this mess up.”
His second nodded and dropped a quick message to the clean-up team. She looked back at the Mafia lieutenant with a skeptical frown.
“What was that all about, Louie? You know Hugo was too damn stupid to be behind the leaks.”
Louie nodded, but but kept staring at the dead body.
“Of course he’s not the one. But he’s a convenient decoy to make the bastard think he’s out of the spotlight. A shame to waste a hard worker, unimaginative as he was, but Hugo will be more useful as a distraction than a banger.”
Terri nodded thoughtfully, running through the line of thought and coming to her own conclusions.
“So you want some ‘opportunities’ for the new guys? See who bites?”
Louie nodded. “Let some of the bigger picture slip here and there. With the pig feeling safer now that the heat’s down, we’ll see what happens. Not too fast, and not too obvious. Just keep an eye on things as see who slips up.”
“Maybe we can even give Lone Pork a bloody nose in the process…”
