“Absolutely. And another thing… I am pretty sure Rodrigo is still alive. I could have sworn nothing could have lived through that explosion.”
Hirito’s words echoed in her ears for a few seconds as the multiple implications sunk in. If Rodrigo was really still alive… No, Don’t do that to yourself again, Vesic. Shattered hope is too hard on the soul. But if the corp suspected they were still alive, then someone else might know it too. Someone much more dangerous.
“So… We run again? Restart again?”, she whispered, unable to trust herself to not betray the impact that the revelation had on her.
Her friend sat quietly looking at her. The silence seemed to go on forever. She was about to take the silence as confirmation, when Hirito’s eyes hardened and he clearly made a decision.
“No, I am tired of running. Tired of being chased. Being the prey. It’s time we went on the hunt."
She was so surprised by the answer, she missed the rest of what he said. She stared blankly at Hirito, unsure what to make of all this. The little japanese sniper had always seemed so distant and unsure. ‘He hides behind his scope’, Blossom had once said. ’It’s his armor against getting too close to anyone who might hurt him.’ Maybe there was more to her friend than she had noticed.
Oh, she knew that he had a crush on her. She’d never even considered him anything more than a friend. But it had been a long time…
Vesic smiled warmly at her friend, “Care for some cake?”
